Vinuri De Silva BioDesign Competition
The Vinuri De Silva Biodesign Competition takes students through the biodesign innovation process. Participants are placed into multidsicplinary teams and attend workshops and seminars over 10 weeks hosted by industry experts and medtech start up founders. From finding a need and developing a solution, to creating an effective business case, participants learn first hand what it is like to be medtech innovators. At the end of the 10 weeks they pitch to a panel of expert judges to win prizes of up to $2500.

2023 Competition Timeline and Events
Vinuri De Silva
The second BioDesign Competition has been named after Vinuri De Silva to acknowledge her lasting legacy to those around her.
I don’t know anything about biomedical innovation, can I still sign up?
Yes! We assume no prior knowledge; as long as you are enthusiastic to participate you are eligible.
I don’t live in Melbourne, can I still sign up?
Although we think it will be more fun to join in person, we will run all of our sessions in a hybrid format so that you can join remotely if you need.
When do applications open?
Applications open in week 9. In the meantime you can fill out the expression of interest and we will notify you as soon as applications open.
I want to participate but I don’t have a team, what can I do?
Sign up! We are responsible for placing you in a team. We will host two group forming nights to meet team members and you can place preferences after that stage. However, even this is optional and we will find a team for you either way.
Does this need to fit into my study plan?
No, this is not a subject and it taken alongside your university subjects.
